Spain theme country Fiets en Wandelbeurzen

Spain has been chosen as theme country of the ‘Fiets en Wandelbeurzen’ 2016 (Cycling & Hiking Fairs) in the Netherlands and Belgium. The scope for cycling and recreational hiking in the entire country will be centre stage during this event in the Jaarbeurs Utrecht (20th. -21st. February) and Antwerp Expo (27th. -28th. February.

From rocky coastline and views on deep blue seas to snow-clad peaks, mountain lakes and volcanic landscapes: Spain has got it all. Travelling on foot or by bike you really get to know the real ‘España’. You are greeted warmly in centuries old villages, breathe in the beneficial aroma of orange tree blossom and watch distant windmills drawing closer in the vast landscape of the Spanish mesa. The ‘Vias Verdes’, nearly car free 'green roads' over former railway tracks, now offer about 2,000 kilometres of cycling and hiking pleasure. And how about the 15 national parks in Spain, which have grown to become Eldorado’s for hikers, cyclists and mountain bikers.

Spanish high spots

Spain has innumerable cycling and hiking highlights. On Tenerife the Pico del Tide (3718 m) volcano rises to 3718 m, the highest peak in Spain, in the green Picos de Europa you experience the savage desolation of the high mountains and in the Sierra de Montsant you wander around in a rugged limestone massif. Via long distance routes like the Silver Route for cyclists and of the course the pilgrims’ routes to Santiago you get acquainted with the expansive Spanish interior, the culture and the picturesque villages which spring into life after dusk.

Theme country Pavilion

The great diversity of Spain comes well to the fore in the big Theme Country Pavilion during the Fiets en Wandelbeurzen, where travel organisations, tour operators and regions present the opportunities for cycling and hiking and all-in packages for these activities. Enthusiastic cyclists and hikers will provide independent advice about routes and destinations within Spain. And the Theme Country Terrace provides ample opportunity to sample tasty Spanish specialities.
